Postures are the positions and alignments that the body assumes while standing, sitting, lying, or moving. They reflect how the spine, joints, and muscles are arranged in relation to gravity and to each other. Good postures help distribute weight evenly, reduce strain on muscles and ligaments, and support long‑term health of the back, neck, and joints. Poor postures, such as slouching or twisting awkwardly, can lead to discomfort, pain, and chronic musculoskeletal problems. The term can also be used metaphorically to describe someone’s social or political stance, but most commonly it refers to physical body alignment and position.
